Abstract

Sustainable tourism is the focus of a protocol to the Alpine Convention. All three dimensions of sustainability are to be given equal consideration: Ecological, economic and social. The development of sustainable tourism is seen as the basis for successful economic promotion, especially in rural areas. Challenges in this area which are dealt with in this report are climate change, the preservation and creation of jobs as well as the provision of public services and educational opportunities.
