This layer shows the evolution of the exceedances of the long-term ozone objective for the protection of human health in the Alpine region. Here it is possible to observe the yearly number of exceedances of the long-term goal of 120 µg/m3 per station for 2016, 2017, and 2018.
The target value for the protection of human health (120 µg/m3, not to be exceeded more than 25 times on average over 3 years) is exceeded at most sites and throughout most of the territory, although Germany and Monaco are exceptions. Inter-annual variability can be noted in those areas, with a higher number of exceedances of the 120 µg/m3 threshold in 2018 compared to the previous years. The long-term objective for the protection of human health (120 µg/m3) and the WHO guideline (100 µg/m3) are exceeded almost everywhere.
